While pursuing a degree in Chemistry at the Scottish Church College in Kolkata, Mithun actively participated in local talent competitions and theatre productions. His raw talent and dedication caught the eye of renowned filmmaker Mrinal Sen, who offered him a role in the critically acclaimed film "Mrigayaa" (1976). This marked Mithun's debut in the world of cinema and laid the foundation for his illustrious career.
